Lishui's rare flower sea reappears after five years

A transient sea of pink and purple flowers has reappeared in Liandu district of Lishui, Zhejiang province, presenting a picturesque winter scene. This floral landscape, formed by knotweed, stretches under the sunlight, complementing the distant mountains and nearby reeds.

The bloom is located at the end of the Gaoxi Reservoir, where visitors have been flocking to admire this rare sight.

The flower field is entirely natural and requires specific water levels and soil moisture, which were provided by exposed mudflats after the reservoir entered its dry season.

Due to these unique conditions, such widespread knotweed blooms are not an annual event — the last occurred five years ago. The current flowering period is expected to be short, likely lasting only until mid-December.
