Yiwu announced as 2026 Spring Festival Gala sub-venue
Yiwu in Zhejiang province, Harbin in Heilongjiang, Hefei in Anhui, and Yibin in Sichuan have been announced by the China Media Group (CMG) as sub-venues for the 2026 Spring Festival Gala, collaborating with the main venue in Beijing to present a culturally rich celebration of Chinese traditions and folk customs.
As a cherished cultural event for Chinese communities worldwide, the Spring Festival Gala is the most-watched annual TV event in the world.
According to Zhang Guofei, director of CMG's arts program center, the 2026 gala will continue its "open-door" approach to creating a gala infused with cultural richness, technological flair, and international appeal, with sub-venues having become essential in recent years for highlighting the diverse landscapes and traditions of various cities.
Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua known as the "world's supermarket", will be the first sub-venue from Zhejiang. With over 2,200 years of history, the city is characterized by the "six virtues" of integrity, loyalty, filial piety, benevolence, chivalry, and trustworthiness.
Yiwu's global influence is underscored by its status as the world's largest small commodities market, trading with 233 countries and regions and attracting international merchants from over 160.
Yiwu Party Secretary Ye Bangrui said that becoming a sub-venue highlights the city's historical depth and unique charm. As a critical node in the Belt and Road Initiative and a central hub for international trade, Yiwu looks forward to celebrating the gala and partaking in a harmonious Silk Road symphony with friends worldwide.
