Jiaxing's Pinghu develops low-altitude economy with drone delivery service
Drone-delivered meals have debuted at the Jiulongshan Holiday Resort in Pinghu, a county-level city in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province. This new dining option for tourists also marks the city's first use of drone delivery services within a scenic area.
According to Ying Xiong, general manager of Pinghu Low-altitude Economic Development, the city has tested drone deliveries in areas like Yinghua Town and Minghu Park. The aim is to create a diversified, on-demand delivery system for food and emergency supplies. The service not only enhances consumer choice and safety but also provides a unique experience through cutting-edge technology.
This drone service is part of Pinghu's broader initiative to develop the low-altitude economy. Since establishing the Pinghu Low-altitude Economic Development entity in April 2025, the city has set up 33 drone take-off and landing points. Drone applications now extend beyond tourism to include city management — such as traffic accident response, river pipeline inspections, and emergency medical services.
As of now, Pinghu has tested 12 different drone applications, logging over 2,100 safe flights and a total distance of more than 21,000 kilometers. The city aims to establish a recognizable low-altitude brand and further embed this technology into both public services and commercial sectors.
