Jiaxing Port opens new 10,000-ton berth for improved efficiency
Jiaxing Port celebrated the opening of berths B25 and B26 and the No 2 inland river port pool at Dushan Port Area on Oct 29. This new addition marks another milestone in Jiaxing Port's development, introducing a 10,000-metric-ton berth and a sea-river intermodal transport operation area.
The Xinmingzhou 78 vessel set sail from berths B25 and B26, marking the inaugural Dushan–Ningbo container route.
The berths B25 and B26, which began construction in December 2022, span 263 mu (15.73 hectares) and received a total investment of 1.62 billion yuan ($227.28 million). The newly-built terminal is capable of handling two 30,000-ton ships or one 50,000-ton and one 10,000-ton ship simultaneously. The terminal is designed to have an annual capacity of 700,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 80,000 tons of general cargo.
These two berths are currently the highest-rated, most powerful, and most advanced multi-purpose berths in Jiaxing Port in terms of intelligent capabilities. Such intelligent berths will promote the development of Jiaxing's sea-river intermodal transportation and help realize cost reduction and efficiency.
Additionally, the No 2 inland river port pool with 11 berths for 500-ton ships also commenced operations, improving the connection between inland waterways and the sea.
Jiaxing Port is currently home to 127 productive berths, including 56 coastal berths. The port handled 2.74 million TEUs from January to September, an 8.16 percent increase year-on-year, and 772,500 TEUs in sea-river intermodal transport, a 7.16 percent increase. By 2027, Jiaxing Port aims to handle 150 million tons of cargo and 5 million TEUs annually, with plans to open more than eight near-sea routes.
