The city of Lishui in East China's Zhejiang province figured among the top 10 independent travel destinations in China – in terms of the year-on-year growth of tourist volumes – during the recent Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, according to data from Chinese travel service provider Ctrip.

By studying search strings and the booking keywords for tourism products during the holiday this year, Ctrip found that family travel, privacy, independent group, and outdoor travel became the first choices of tourists.

During the holiday, tourists made 5.45 million trips to Lishui, generating 3.46 billion yuan ($516.68 million) in tourism revenue.

Many of them chose independent travel and self-drive trips to Lishui, according to local officials.
