Shaoxing is the largest yellow rice wine production, sales and export base in China. Shaoxing yellow rice wine enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. It is not only a traditional specialty, but also a historic classic industry with cultural heritage, and a "golden name card" for the city.

There are 77 QS certified yellow rice wine production enterprises in the city. There are also two listed enterprises, Guyue Longshan and Kuaijishan, and Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine Group is the largest yellow rice wine production enterprise in China.

In 2018, the 13 yellow rice wine enterprises above designated scale – annual sales revenue surpassing 20 million yuan ($2.85 million) – achieved an annual output of 337,000 tons and an output value of 4.37 billion yuan.
