Shaoxing pinghu tunes
Shaoxing pinghu tunes, also known as yuejun nanci or Shaoxing pingdiao, is a popular form of folk art in Shaoxing and surrounding areas in Zhejiang province. It is said that this kind of folk art originated in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and took shape in the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Shaoxing pinghu tunes are elegant in language, rich in melody and unique in style, with strong literary qualities, musicality and artistry. It is the inheritance and development of traditional Jiangnan (a region south of the Yangtze River) ballad singing in Shaoxing and plays a very important role in cultivating and improving the cultural life of the local people.
Shaoxing pinghu tunes were included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists in 2006.
