Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province launched a double-decker bus line to connect Shaoxingbei Railway Station to the city's most popular tourist spots on Dec 18.

Eight double-decker buses named after legendary hero Yu the Great are scheduled to depart from Shaoxingbei Railway Station and terminate at the Mausoleum of Yu the Great.

They carry tourists to eight major tourist destinations: The Mausoleum of Yu the Great, Luxun Native Place, East Lake scenic area, the Ancient Towpath, the ancient town area, Shen Garden, Orchid Pavilion, and the former residence of Wang Yangming.

The shuttle buses will travel a total length of 24 kilometers 59 times per day. They will run from 6:50 to 21:00, and the price of one ticket will be 3 yuan ($0.459).

Shaoxing has been operating double-decker buses since 2003. The sightseeing vehicles were popular among locals and tourists alike, but were eventually decommissioned due to environment concerns.

"The new vehicles are electric-powered and will take passengers on a unique tour around the ancient city," said the spokesperson for the municipal bus corporation.
