Shaoxing has 1.1 million registered volunteers

Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province has over 1.1 million registered volunteers and over 16,000 volunteer teams, according to volunteer service application Zhiyuanhui.

Wang Yongfu, who has been volunteering since 2003, had in June 2012 founded the Xinchang Red Scarf Association. The association has enrolled over 400 members in eight years.

Shaoxing boasts friendly neighborhoods and deserves the love of every residents, said the 44-year-old.

An increasing number of people are becoming volunteers, said Wang Saidong, deputy director of the municipal united front bureau.

He added that over 10,000 young volunteers took on important roles during the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in Shangyu district.
