Keqiao Economic Development Zone was established in Keqiao district in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, in September 1992, and 10 years later it was upgraded to a State-level economic and technological development zone with the approval of the State Council. With an area of 41 square kilometers and a population of about 110,000, by 2017 the zone had attracted more than 2,500 enterprises, including 210 enterprises above designated size – annual sales revenue surpassing 20 million yuan ($2.85 million).

The zone is the pioneer area for the economic development of Keqiao district. Located in the prosperous Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo economic belt in the Yangtze River Delta area, it is 20 minutes' drive from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, an hour from Ningbo and two hours from Shanghai. The Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo railway, the 104 national highway and Zhedong Grand Canal run through the area.

At the beginning of its establishment, the zone focused on the construction of China Textile City, aiming to build it into the largest professional textile market in Asia.

Over the years, according to the principle of "upgrading traditional industries, expanding emerging industries", the district also developed high-tech industries with low land occupation and high productive efficiency, such as auto parts manufacturing, electronic appliances, mechatronics, and new energy basic materials.
