Ren Ke, a young man from Shengzhou, a city under the administration of Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province, has been giving away free buns to elderly people living alone in Shanghai, which is currently in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ren runs a breakfast store in Yueyang subdistrict, Songjiang district in Shanghai.

Ren started giving away food such as steamed buns and soybean milk to elderly people living in the vicinity of his store from April 13.

"Some seniors are not capable of using smartphones to order food or buy living necessities on the internet," Ren said. "I've been very concerned about them."

The neighborhood that Ren's store is in has over 40 seniors who are aged above 80. Volunteers will help send food supplied by Ren to these elderly people in the morning and at noon.

Ren said that many people have also come forward to contribute by paying for the food that he has been giving away.
