Shaoxing maintains steady economic growth in Jan-Apr period

Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province maintained steady economic growth from January to April, according to statistics recently released by the city's authorities.

The total imports and exports of the city during the period stood at 104.41 billion yuan ($15.67 billion), a year-on-year increase of 32.5 percent. The exports reached 95.67 billion yuan, up 35.2 percent year-on-year.

To help business entities through the difficulties, Shaoxing has released favorable policies since the beginning of this year including offering subsidies to and cutting taxes for firms.

According to statistics, from January to April, the added value of industrial companies that are above a designated size -annual revenue of 20 million yuan -grew by 10 percent year-on-year, 3.4 percentage points higher than the provincial average.

As a result of the recent COVID-19 outbreak that has rippled across the nation, Shaoxing's pharmaceutical industry saw a burgeoning growth.

During the January-April period, the industrial output of 14 pharmaceutical companies in Shangyu district of Shaoxing was up 23 percent year-on-year.

The city saw year-on-year increases of 10.6 percent in fixed asset investment, 29.9 percent in investment in high-tech sector, and 20.6 percent in investment in manufacturing industry.
