Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province was recently shortlisted as a national model for intellectual property matters.

The city's sustained efforts to improve intellectual property creation, protection, application, management and services have yielded fruitful results in recent years.

In the past five years, 18 patents from Shaoxing had won the China Patent Award. Two patents won the gold award, the highest accolade in the award.

Conferred by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization, the China Patent Award is the only governmental award in China to reward inventions and creations with patent rights.

The city also posted an average annual growth rate of 25.28 percent in the number of invention patents during the five-year period.

In addition, there has been a strong growth in financing through the pledging of intellectual property rights in Shaoxing. Capital derived from intellectual property right pledges in the city expanded 92 percent year-on-year to 8.41 billion yuan ($1.29 billion) in the first half of this year, the third highest in Zhejiang, according to official statistics.

From 2019 to 2021, Shaoxing was ranked among the top 10 cities in China in terms of administrative protection of intellectual property rights.

Last year, the city was also rated "excellent" in a provincial appraisal for matters related to intellectual property right protection.
