Shaoxing ranks high nationwide for per capita disposable income
Shaoxing's overall per capita disposable income hit 62,509 yuan ($9,616.77) in 2021, the highest among all prefecture-level cities in Zhejiang and ranking third nationwide, only behind Suzhou and Wuxi, local media reported.
The per capita disposable income of the city's urban residents was 73,101 yuan, while the figure for rural residents was 42,636 yuan.
The top 10 prefecture-level cities in China in terms of per capita disposable income were all located within the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta.
Suzhou topped the rankings, followed by Wuxi, Shaoxing, Dongguan, Foshan, Zhuhai, Zhoushan, Jiaxing, Huzhou and Changzhou.
According to Tang Hairu, vice chairman of the Experts' Committee of the Hangzhou Planning Commission, Shaoxing's pillar industries including wine, sauce products and textiles as well as its robust private sector are the prime reasons behind the high income levels.
He pointed out that nearly every town in Shaoxing has a characteristic industry which has bolstered local economic growth.
