The Shaoxing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries recently invited 52 expats from 17 countries to experience the city's yellow rice wine culture.

When visiting Gu Yue Long Shan, a company the China Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine Group Co, the expats learned about brewing techniques and even tried their hands at painting wine jars.

"I am bringing my own jar home so that my family and friends can learn about Shaoxing yellow rice wine, said a Nigerian student who studies at Shaoxing University.

Shaoxing yellow rice wine is often used as the Chinese equivalent to the cooking sherry. It was first brewed over 2,500 years ago and its brewing technique was listed as a State-level intangible cultural heritage item in 2006.
