The Shangyu Ceramic Institute of Higher Learning is located in Ciyuan town. With help from local celadon cultural resources, the institute has developed innovative celadon products using 3D printing technology.

By using digital modeling, 3D printing, and rapid drying, the institute has managed to shorten design and sampling periods, increase efficiency, and reduce the number of processes for ceramics.

In the past, the sampling process alone included multiple procedures such as design, clay sculpture, mold turning, injection, glazing, and firing, which took at least 10 days. If the sample needed to be modified, the process would be repeated, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive, according to Ouyang Xiaosheng, director of the institute.

Ouyang added that their digital rapid design and sample sharing platform solves the aforementioned problems.

Designers and clients can also modify plans in real-time through 3D scanning and related software, enabling previously fuzzy design concepts only discussed verbally or through pictures to be presented in a real and intuitive way, according to Ouyang.
