Shaoxing to host ancient city protection day event

Shaoxing is set to host the 7.15 Shaoxing Ancient City Protection Day and the International Symposium on Ancient City Culture Inheritance and Development from July 14 to 16, 2023.

The event aims to gather experts and scholars from the fields of history, art, architecture, and urban planning related to ancient cities.

The Shaoxing Ancient City Innovation Competition finals will be held on July 16, during the symposium, at Shaoxing University. The 18 teams to advance to the finals will present their projects through roadshows, and the final winners will be determined by an expert judging panel.

In the preliminary stage, nearly 100 entries were received focusing on themes such as innovative planning for ancient cities, community innovation in ancient cities, technological innovation in ancient cities, governance innovation in ancient cities, and industrial innovation in ancient cities.

A highlight of the competition will be the unveiling of the Ancient City Innovation "Metaverse" Museum, where all shortlisted projects will be showcased as the first batch of exhibits in the museum.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Ancient City Protection Day. Over the past five years, Shaoxing's efforts to preserve and utilize the ancient city have borne fruitful results.

Each year, a work plan for the preservation and utilization of the ancient city is established, with a total investment of approximately 40 billion yuan ($5.52 billion), approximately 14 billion yuan of which has been used.
