Shaoxing athlete secures gold in 4x100m freestyle relay
Chinese swimmer Wu Qingfeng, hailing from Shaoxing, clinched gold medal in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Sept 24.
Wu, alongside her teammates Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, and Zhang Yufei, completed the race in just 3 minutes and 33.96 seconds, breaking the previous tournament record set by the Japanese team.
Earlier in the day, during the preliminary heats, the Chinese team, comprising Li Bingjie, Yu Yiting, Wu, and Liu Yaxin, dominated with a time of 3 minutes and 37.53 seconds. Wu demonstrated her prowess by participating in both the heats and the final.
Wu made her debut as a registered athlete for Shaoxing's Shangyu district in 2014. In the same year, she claimed a gold medal and broke the national junior record in the 50m freestyle event for 11-year-old girls at the provincial games.
In 2017, she made waves at the National Spring Swimming Championships, clinching top honors in both the women's 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events.
During the Tokyo Olympics women's 4x100m freestyle relay preliminaries, she contributed to the Chinese team's record-breaking performance of 3 minutes and 35.07 seconds, securing a spot in the final. In the final, China secured 7th place while breaking the Asian record.
