Shaoxing's foreign trade soars in Jan-Aug
The volume of imports and exports of Shaoxing, Zhejiang province reached 285.02 billion yuan ($38.97 billion) from January to August, representing a surge of 16.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
The growth rate secured Shaoxing the third position in the province's overall trade performance during the first eight months of 2023.
The exports soared to 258.17 billion yuan, registering an increase of 13.9 percent compared to the previous year and securing the top spot in the province's export growth rankings.
Industry insiders suggested that the city's total export value in 2023 is poised to surpass 400 billion yuan, doubling the figure from five years ago.
The city's commerce authorities have organized a total of 265 groups comprising 3,069 enterprises to participate in exhibitions overseas as of September this year. The cumulative value of intended transactions has exceeded $1.6 billion.
Data from the Shaoxing Comprehensive Bonded Zone revealed that the zone had witnessed a substantial surge in imports and exports, reaching 9.31 billion yuan from January to August, marking a growth of 9.7 times compared to the same period last year.
Speaking on the city's future strategy, the city's commerce authorities emphasized the forthcoming plans to further support local enterprises in exploring new markets and expanding their presence in diversified markets, including the countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
