The sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai on Nov 5, and businesses from Shaoxing have embraced it as a global platform, reaping significant benefits.

This edition of the CIIE saw impressive turnout from Shaoxing, with over 1,300 registered companies and more than 2,700 registered attendees, spanning various sectors including food and agricultural products, automobiles, technology equipment, consumer goods, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

"This event offers Shaoxing enterprises a golden opportunity to explore, learn, and engage in negotiations with global companies presenting their latest products, technologies, and materials," stated a representative from the Shaoxing bureau of commerce.

One notable success story comes from Zhejiang Hailiang Group, which secured procurement contracts worth 6 billion yuan ($943 million) for bulk commodities like electrolytic copper, vital for their production processes.

Leveraging the CIIE platform, Hailiang has established partnerships with suppliers from South Korea, such as LS and Samsung, maintaining strong and fruitful collaboration. "The CIIE allows us to access international supply chain platforms without leaving the country, and that's why it attracts us," noted Yao Leyong, deputy director of the Hailiang Supply Chain Center.

As a "longtime friend" of the CIIE, Shaoxing arranged for the participation of seven intangible cultural heritage projects in the event's cultural exchange activities. Shaoxing Yellow Rice Wine, Yue Kiln Celadon, and traditional Yueju Opera presentations showcased the city's unique cultural charm, sharing Shaoxing’s rich history and stories with the world.

The municipal bureau of commerce expressed its commitment to utilizing this significant platform effectively, fostering discussions and exchanges, deepening practical connections in the industrial and supply chains, introducing new concepts, equipment, and technologies, and enticing more multinational companies to invest in Shaoxing.
