Nestled in the heart of Zhejiang province, Zhuji stands as one of the inaugural "National Basketball Cities," renowned for its vibrant basketball culture, local media reported on Jan 2.

Taking center stage is Zhuji's very own "Cun (which means village in Chinese) BA" tournament, a rural twist on the NBA, tipping off on April 9 last year and swiftly evolving into a flagship of grassroots sports in the region.

A total of 23 towns, 281 teams, and nearly 4,000 local athletes participated in the event, engaging in a staggering 681 electrifying matchups.

What distinguishes Zhuji's "Cun BA" is its authentic rural flair. No outside players grace the courts; they are reserved for hometown heroes, born in the village or deeply rooted within. The competition unfolds on quaint basketball courts in the hearts of village communities.

Beyond showcasing grassroots basketball prowess, the games shed light on the indomitable spirit and character of Zhuji's residents. Each village passionately rallies behind its team, transforming every match into a fervent spectacle of support. The stands remain consistently packed with people bearing witness to heated contests.

The prize money given to the teams generously flows into charitable endeavors.
