Shaoxing's Yuecheng district held its annual "two sessions" on Jan 14, bringing together local lawmakers and political advisors for discussions on the economic and social developments of the past year and plans for the upcoming year.

The district aims to achieve a regional GDP of 134 billion yuan ($18.74 billion) in 2023, reflecting a 7 percent growth compared to 2022.

The number of market entities surpassed 120,000, with over 1,700 enterprises participating in 50 domestic and international exhibitions, resulting in global orders exceeding a record $500 million.

The total market value of listed companies in the district surpassed 100 million yuan, and the year saw the introduction of 46 key projects with a total investment of 134 billion yuan.

The income ratio between urban and rural residents continues to decline, reaching 1.53, while accident and mortality rates decreased by 47 percent and 52 percent, respectively, compared to the three-year average.

Looking forward, Yuecheng envisions becoming a provincial hub for talent in education and technology, the integrated circuit industry, and the harmonious development of culture and tourism.

The district has set a GDP growth target of over 7 percent for 2024, with a strong emphasis on developing three leading industries: integrated circuits, medical equipment, and high-end services.

In 2024, Yuecheng plans to alleviate financial burdens on enterprises by more than 1.7 billion yuan, advance the construction of a national regional medical center, and establish a comprehensive healthcare service system. Additionally, the district aims to cultivate five modern schools and four kindergartens.

Further highlighting its cultural identity, Yuecheng plans to enhance its canal culture and millennia-old city allure with more than 20 major cultural and tourism projects, investing over 4 billion yuan.
