Shengzhou city's annual "Two Sessions" recently concluded, with local lawmakers and political advisors discussing the economic and social developments of the past year and plans for the upcoming year.

The city reported a significant economic upturn in 2023, with GDP reaching 74.5 billion yuan ($10.41 billion), a 7.5-percent increase from the previous year.

Over the course of the year, negotiations were held on 77 projects, attracting a total investment exceeding 58 billion yuan. Notably, 49 projects with investments surpassing 100 million yuan were successfully signed into effect, amounting to over 44 billion yuan in total investments.

Shengzhou garnered several accolades last year, solidifying its position at 66th among the top 100 counties and county-level cities in comprehensive competitiveness nationwide.

In 2024, Shengzhou will remain committed to further developing its industrial clusters, modernizing classic industries such as smart homes, high-end equipment, and modern textiles, and nurturing the growth of four strategic emerging industries: new energy vehicles and components, new materials, life and health, and next-generation information technology.

Concurrently, the city will deepen its engagement in biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, and special medical foods, with a focus on establishing a leading life and health industry platform within the province.

Plans are also underway to establish the Zhejiang University Silk Protein Nanomaterial Innovation Center, build a silk protein industrial park, and expedite the development of a multi-billion-yuan silkworm silk industry.

Additionally, efforts will be directed towards fortifying the integrated intelligent kitchenware industry park, with the aim of achieving an output value exceeding 30 billion yuan.
