Recommended scenic spots in Shaoxing

Zhejiang's Shaoxing — an ancient city located in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River — features a classical garden, a famous residence, and a beautiful mountain landscape, presenting its rich cultural charm and the beautiful scenery of water towns.
Shen's Garden, a renowned private garden owned by a wealthy merchant surnamed Shen in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), once spanned over 46,667 square meters. It was the site of a household love tragedy between Lu You (1125-1210), one of ancient China's most prolific and famous poets, and his first wife Tang Wan (1128-56), immortalizing the poignant ancient poem Chaitoufeng.
Over the years, the garden underwent significant changes, with expansions in 1987, 1994, and 2000. It now covers 38,000 square meters, comprising historical relics, a southern garden, and an eastern garden.
The Lu Xun Native Place, not far from Shen's Garden, is another famous attraction in Shaoxing. It features sites from Lu Xun's writings, like the Sanwei Study and Baicao Garden. This well-preserved historical district showcases the city's cultural charm.
Spanning a 289,000-square-meter area, the famous residence is a national 5A-level scenic spot and a key cultural heritage site. In 2023, it attracted over 3.9 million visitors.
Fuzhi Mountain scenic area, located in Shangyu district, Shaoxing, features the highest peak at 861.3 meters. This national 4A-level scenic spot offers an array of tourist attractions, including the ancient village of Dongcheng.
With an altitude of 300 meters and an area of 7.37 square kilometers, Dongcheng village is vitalized with guesthouses and farm stays, blending ancient architecture with modern hospitality. Visitors can enjoy local specialties such as tea, chestnuts, dried bamboo shoots, and fresh fruits.
