Shaoxing made a notable debut at 19th place in the "2024 Chinese Mainland Sport Cities Index", released by Shanghai University of Sport on Nov 7.

The index assesses cities based on sports history, event impact, media presence, and professional sports influence.

Among the new entrants, Nantong, Dongguan, and Shaoxing, all with professional sports clubs, broke into the top 20. This highlights the significant influence of high-level sports events and professional clubs on city rankings.

Shaoxing's profile has risen due to hosting major events such as the Asian Games and the National Baseball Championship, enhancing its international reputation.

The city has also invested in sports infrastructure, including Asian Games venues and community fitness centers. Shaoxing now boasts a per capita sports facility area of 3.15 square meters, ranking second in the province.
