Shaoxing documents over 4,700 species
Shaoxing in East China's Zhejiang province highlighted the city's rich biodiversity at a news conference on Oct 11, revealing that the region is home to an impressive 4,781 documented species.
The diverse array includes 2,249 higher plant species, 298 bird species, 685 insect species, and 60 mammal species.
The city has developed a comprehensive nature conservation system encompassing national and provincial parks, reserves, and scenic areas. Shaoxing now boasts five national forest parks, two national wetland parks, one national geological park, and two national scenic areas, along with several provincial-level reserves.
Shaoxing's conservation achievements extend beyond infrastructure. The city has created biodiversity learning sites, partnered with eco-friendly businesses, and established model conservation cases to educate and engage the public.
So far, Shaoxing has developed 18 provincial and municipal biodiversity experience sites, recognized eight biodiversity-friendly enterprises, and highlighted nine model conservation cases.
