Shaoxing kicked off its 2025 Foreign-Related Commercial Legal Services Season in April, aiming to give local businesses a legal edge as they expand overseas.

Running through June, the initiative focuses on practical support — from cross-border e-commerce compliance workshops to risk management sessions tailored for small and medium-sized exporters.

With many local firms targeting Southeast Asia and Africa, the program includes outbound investment briefings aligned with real-world needs.

Training is also a priority. Mediators, international lawyers, and university students will take part in specialized courses to build up a new generation of legal talent in foreign-related commerce.

As of March 2025, the Shaoxing committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade had handled 128 commercial dispute cases involving over 302 million yuan ($41.68 million). Of those, 125 were resolved, and nearly 38 percent ended in settlement — helping parties recover a combined 83.24 million yuan.

Shaoxing is no stranger to global business. In 2024, the city traded directly with 219 countries and regions, racking up 413.7 billion yuan in imports and exports — with exports alone reaching 376.2 billion yuan. Nearly 13,000 local firms had export records, with 455 newcomers entering the field.
