Shaoxing metro adds cooling shelters
With the arrival of the "plum rain" season, Shaoxing has entered a period of high heat and humidity. The first true heatwave hit earlier this week. Starting in June, Shaoxing Metro Line 1 opened its cooling shelters ahead of schedule to offer free relief to passengers.

Three new spots were added. They are located at Yangxunqiao Station (Exit C passageway), Daqingsi Station (Exit D), and Nanchi Station (Exit C).
Previously, 11 shelters were set up at Yaqian, Xisha Road, China Textile City, Yuezhou Avenue, Guazhuhu, Meishan Square, City Square, Chengnan Avenue, Fenghuangshan, Qihu, and Laojiafeng stations. The total now stands at 14, covering over one-third of Line 1.
A metro staff member said the shelters prioritize high-traffic stations and will expand based on community needs. Open during station hours, they provide seating, free drinking water, reading materials, and basic medicine for heatstroke prevention.
Transparent windproof curtains help contain cold air while conserving energy. The shelters aim to offer both comfort and sustainability during the hot season.
