Russian woman honored for heroic rescue in Shaoxing

Gubaidullina Shakhnaz Evgenevna, a Russian woman who saved an elderly woman from drowning in Shaoxing, East China's Zhejiang province, has recently been honored as a role model by the city, making her the first foreign recipient of this recognition.
Shakhnaz just graduated from Huzhou University with an undergraduate degree. On June 23, she witnessed a woman falling into the water, when she traveled to Shaoxing on her graduation trip. Without hesitation, she rushed over and jumped in to help the woman, who was struggling and starting to sink.
Thanks to Shakhnaz and help from local residents, the elderly woman was successfully rescued. Shakhnaz's heroic rescue effort was captured by surveillance camera and subsequently went viral on Chinese social media, winning the praise of netizens.
An official from the Shaoxing government said, "People are moved by Shakhnaz's heroic rescue and demonstration of bravery, reflecting the ties of friendship beyond boundaries."
