Shaoxing Institute of Technology held its inauguration ceremony on Sept 13, marking its transition from the former Yuanpei College of Shaoxing University to an independent public undergraduate institution.

The establishment of the institute marks an important step in expanding access to higher education for residents of Shaoxing. Senior officials from Zhejiang province and Shaoxing city attended the ceremony.

Shi Huifang, Party secretary of Shaoxing, congratulated the institute on its founding, acknowledged the contributions of its predecessor to the city's development, and expressed hope that the new university would grow into a hub for scientific innovation, industrial transformation, talent cultivation, and urban progress.

Located in Shaoxing's Jinghu Higher Education Park and home to more than 7,000 students, the institute offers 30 undergraduate programs and maintains close ties with local industries and overseas universities.

On Sept 14, the institute welcomed 1,915 freshmen at its opening ceremony for the class of 2025, marking the start of its first academic year as an independent university.

Gao Jianguo, Party secretary of the institute, said the school will strengthen its focus on science and technology, deepen cooperation with local enterprises, and cultivate more application-oriented talent to support regional development.
