Shaoxing launched photo exhibition on Zhedong Canal on Nov 19 and will run until Dec 10.

The exhibition presents 100 selected photos that trace the stories of Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Shaoxing of Zhejiang province along the ancient waterway, offering visitors a visual journey through both historical charm and contemporary life.

The showcase was curated from a wide call for submissions that collected 8,160 works by 446 photographers within one month. The exhibition adopts a dual narrative approach. A corridor section features thematic sequences that begin with old photographs to highlight historic sites and shared memories, while more than 40 single photos in the main gallery capture everyday scenes along the canal.

Curator Shen Ke said the goal was to create an interplay between images from different eras and perspectives. Shen noted that the exhibition includes both works by veteran photographers capturing traces of the canal's past and works by younger artists portraying what it's like today.

A visitor from Hangzhou, surnamed Lin, described the exhibition as highly engaging. He said the contrast between historical images and today's scenes gave him new creative ideas and helped link canal culture across the three cities.

The exhibition is located on the first floor of the Zhedong Canal Museum and is open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm every day except Monday. As a cultural event centered on photography, it highlights both the canal's historical importance and its ongoing vitality, while encouraging greater public participation in preservation.
