A China-Greece art exchange program titled "When Athens meets Wenzhou" opened on Oct 26 at the Wenzhou Art Museum, bringing together more than 100 artists, scholars, and curators from both countries to promote cross-cultural dialogue through art.
Over the next 10 days, participating artists will visit Wenzhou's iconic landscapes and historic sites — including the Nanxi River, Yandang Mountain, and Jiangxin Islet — to create on-site sketches and cultural studies. The works created during the residency will later be included in a global touring exhibition, offering international audiences a window into Wenzhou's natural scenery and cultural heritage.

The event highlights cultural resonance between the two cities: Wenzhou, shaped by both its riverine landscapes and maritime legacy, and Athens, the cradle of Western civilization known for its classical tradition and humanistic spirit. Organizers say the shared pursuit of harmony between people and nature provides a natural foundation for artistic collaboration.
This year's program marks the seventh edition of "Meet", Wenzhou's signature international cultural exchange series launched in 2018, which has previously collaborated with Paris, London, and Milan.
The China-Greece exchange features four major sections: exhibition, forum, field sketching, and cultural excursions. The joint exhibition will remain open to the public at the Wenzhou Art Museum until Nov 23.
