Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province unveiled its new Starting Point of the East cultural and tourism brand on Sept 22, at a promotion — held at the China Cultural Center in Budapest, capital of Hungary.
The event featured a blend of cultural presentations, video screenings and creative exhibits. From the celadon porcelain of the Yue kiln to intricate lacquer woodcraft and elegant calligraphy from the Tianyi Pavilion, local visitors experienced Ningbo's history and its cultural depth firsthand.
"Beyond its rich history, Ningbo has strong innovation capacity and an open, inclusive city spirit," noted Konfar Balazs, secretary-general of the China–Hungary Friendship Association, praising the event as a bridge for cultural and economic exchanges.
Budapest was chosen as the first overseas stop because of its central location in Europe and its established ties with Ningbo. Direct flights launched in 2023 now allow for convenient travel between the two cities. The event also coincided with the opening of a graphic seal exhibition, linking Ningbo's landmarks with Hungarian cultural icons.
Highlighting the city's inbound tourism strategy, Ningbo welcomed 75,500 international arrivals at its airport from January to August in 2025, a 24.13 percent increase year-on-year.
"Cultural tourism often leads trade and investment," said Tothfalusy Erika, vice-president of the China-Hungary Economic Chamber, "Showcasing Ningbo's attractions will help deepen cooperation and strengthen relations between our countries."
