The municipal government of Quzhou announced on Oct 10 that the Lanke Mountain World Weiqi Park will begin trial operations on Oct 15.

Located at the foot of Lanke Mountain, a provincial-level scenic area in Zhejiang province, the park covers an area equivalent to nearly 27 standard soccer fields. The mountain is famous for the ancient legend of "Wang Zhi meeting immortals and watching weiqi until his axe handle decayed", which made it one of the symbolic birthplaces of weiqi, or Go, culture in China.

In recent years, Quzhou has promoted Go culture and has hosted three consecutive editions of the Quzhou Lanke Cup World Weiqi Open Tournament. Centered on the theme of Go, the new park features a mix of cultural, educational, and leisure facilities, including an exhibition hall, a food street, a cultural and creative center, and a research and study hub.

From Oct 15 to 19, the park will host a series of Go-related events, including an inter-school tournament, as part of its opening activities.
